Which brings me to something I have realized about myself... I love "three little dots". See, I just did it! (Actually, they are called ellipsis points if you want to be grammatically correct.) Don't believe I am an addict??? Look at the title of my blog: "It's a Golden Day..." Told you so. I know they aren't the best for formal writing, so I never use them there. But they add so much when writing my blog, or an email, or on Facebook. I have to really control myself on Twitter... damn those 140 character limits!!!
But I don't think it's just the "three little dots" I love. "Three little exclamation points" (!!!) and "three little question marks" (???) also score big in my book. What is it about "three"? I'm guessing it stems back from creating center pieces and arrangements with my mother... and what she told me:
"Never use an even number of anything when arranging.
It never looks right.
Three (or five) give it just the right punch."
And so I use three... because five would be just too much, don't you think?Three (or five) give it just the right punch."
So glad you're feeling better! Good thing it doesn't last "3" days!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are feeling better Bevy!
ReplyDeletehave you ever noticed... I am Queen of the Ellipsis? It's the perfect punctuation... neither here nor there... neither ending or beginning... And I agree that 4 would be awkward and five would be too many and two would be... well, silly!
ReplyDeleteI am also a huge fan of the three little dots! Especially on Facebook, but you're right about Twitter. I feel so limited by the amount of characters I can use. So glad you are better.
ReplyDeleteI love three, too, but I have to admit I'm a sucker for 5!! 5 little ones that is:)
ReplyDeleteI am such a 3 dot addict too… :)
ReplyDeleteSo funny. I do it too...ALL the time! I often wonder if anyone snickers at how much I use the ellipsis in my blogging:)
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better...
I LOVE it! I actually give your Mom's advice to people, too! Odd number always are better when decorating! And I LOVE ... Isn't it perfect when we write!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're better. I love the three things too!
ReplyDeleteLove this post...I'm always using three things!!! :-) Your comment on my Bare Escentuals/Smashbox made me LOL...guess we know where YOU stand on the debate. Have a great weekend! XOXO
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear that you're feeling better. Love your three little dots ... I like to apply the theory of multiples of 3 and 5 to chocolates and cookies as well :)

I love three little dots, too but typically reserve them for less formal emails and my blog.
ReplyDeleteI totally relate!!! I think I overuse, overuse, overuse the three dots...have you noticed??? I have heard that landscapers use the 3 rule also...and when someone dies, people believe it "comes in 3's".
ReplyDeleteI think you are on to something!
So glad you are better.
I subscribe to the decor rule of odd numbers-and punctuation!!!
ReplyDeleteI love: ..., !!!, and ??? too-
They make it so much more interesting-
I do the same thing... sometimes mine just continue on. I always tell my kindergartners that when they see those three litle dots that means there's more to come...
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Robin
So glad you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteI, too, love punctuation marks. I joined a group on Facebook called,
' "Let's eat Grandma" or "Let's eat, Grandma" - Punctuation saves lives.' I thought that was so funny! (I am easily amused.)
awww glad you're feeling better girlie - and yes, trios are so much more fun than even numbers (just ask my 2 best friends!)

Yep, I'm addicted to the ellipsis as well. Not sure why...;) So glad to hear you are feeling better. That stomach bug can really wipe you out. Loved the warm weather this weekend! I could certainly use more of that.
ReplyDeleteI love the three little dots as well...I feel they make a comment or post a tad more conversational and informal...just like me!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear you are on the mend. Stomach bugs are never FUN! Send 60 degrees up here...please!
Check out my blog, I may use ... even more than you! I also believe in decorating in three's.
ReplyDeletegreat post, funny and clever at the same time...
