So this watercolor isn't really in my kitchen, but I can see it in the great room from my kitchen sink! And it does so inspire me and make me smile as it reminds me of that wonderful Saturday we get to experience every March. Some of you may have already seen it from yesterday's guest blog Mind Your Manners' Monday: People with Disabilities at Entertaining House. And I read so many sweet comments on it. Thank you for being so receptive! And thank you, my dear friend Jessica, for your support!
We love the Aiken Steeplechase in late March. The weather is always so lovely with a gentle breeze and the azaleas beginning to bloom... I'm getting spring fever right now, just sitting on my front porch in a rocking chair, laptop in my my lap. Steeplechase is the perfect time to get out the Lilly skirts and Jack Rogers sandals. Mike always wears a pair of loud (AKA obnoxiously preppy) pants... or shorts if the weather is warm enough. One year, it was Lilly's pink and green giraffes. Here, we have a classic and subdued (LOL) patchwork.
The boys love the races and have so much fun running around passing the hat for the bets on the horses. I don't think we are contributing to the delinquency of our sons!
I love the beautiful tables and flower arrangements the women prepare. The silver (or Mariposa) trays full of chicken salad sandwiches and fresh strawberries. (You know I will blog about it later!)
And Mike... he just loves a good bourbon and coke!
I mentioned this on Jessica's blog as well - I LOVE that watercolor! And how jealous am I that you guys can sport shorts and Lilly skirts in late March! Ugh, I can't wait until that kind of weather arrives. And, speaking as a Kentucky gal who loves the ponies, no, you are not contributing to the deliquency of your boys; you're just raising them right!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely watercolor!
ReplyDeleteIs the watercolor part of Betsy's book?
ReplyDeleteThe watercolor is beautiful! I'm so envious of your nice weather so early in spring. Your event sounds wonderful ~ care for guests this year?:) I think you're raising "well rounded" young men.

ReplyDeleteWow, what a great watercolor and story...I could see why it makes you smile!
ReplyDeleteSteeplechase....sounds so amazingly fun!
ReplyDelete{You had me a chicken salad-}
Yippee! Your post reminds me Spring is almost here. Love your watercolor. Want to hear more about all of the yummy food at the Steeplechase. We usually have a Derby Party. Like you can't wait to get out my spring clothes and Stephen Bonanos.
ReplyDeleteI adored your guest post over @ Jessicas as well! So beautifully written. Your watercolor is gorgeous, and you and Mike are such a darling couple. And I am in total agreement with JMW - you are raising those young fellows right! :) XOXO
ReplyDeletePS - Bevy I left you a little something over @ my blog! :) XOXO
ReplyDeleteSounds wonderful. Not nearly enough preppy events to wear Lilly in LA. TRying to change that!
ReplyDeleteI agree with JMW, you're raising them right. When I was 9, my daddy took me to my first horse race. (He loved betting on the ponies!) I was happy to spend time with him, but not too interested in it. After the first race however, I was hooked. He used to love to tell people how my cheering got louder and louder as the horses neared the finish line and when it was all over I had tears running down my face because I got so excited.
ReplyDeleteI say it's wholesome family entertainment.
Hope you have a great week!
What a lovely picture you paint! (Or describe!)
ReplyDeleteMike sounds like my kind of guy!
We have lots of polo matches nearby and I have yet to bring the children. We used to have so much fun. Perhaps this will be the summer for it!
I love that watercolor and noticed it in your manner's post at Entertaining Mom. I've been to the Steeplechase and loved it...great spring fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning watercolor. It’s so wonderful to be outdoors when the weather is nice. We go to a bunch of steeplechase races in MD. I actually did a post on them yesterday! Your family is precious! xx
