(Needle) Point Taken

I confess.  I have been a horrible blog friend this week.  With both boys' baseball play-offs going on this week, I have not had time to breath, let alone cook a decent meal... let along read your wonderful blogs!  And I do love them... really!  And I do love to leave comments.  (I am a comment "junkie" myself... I adore getting them!)  So I promise to catch up this weekend, sweet friends!

J's team is now out of the play-offs... very bitter sweet.  S's team has lost one game, but it's double elimination, so we keep on pitching, throwing, and batting.  I am secretly hoping that we only have one more game.  I know.  Bad Mama!

But I have found something to do while watching the games so I am not tempted to partake of the yummy, greasy fries so akin to baseball parks:  I am needlepointing my husband a belt.  I figure if I did it for my college boyfriend twenty years ago, I can certainly make one for my husband!  It is a steeplechase scene for all of the horsi-ness of our town.  He picked it out so it's not going to be a surprise.  But that's really better as I won't have to hide it!

Isn't it just the best?

You can almost see the first two rows of light green
I had stitched when I took the picture.

But what am I to do when I am finished?  I am getting addicted!  I'm thinking of a cute keychain for myself and maybe gifts for the women in my family.  Hmmm....

  1. I love needlepoint items. My mother-in-law did stocking for both my children. We love hanging them every year. Great belt- I like the key fob idea.

  2. I LOVE it! You are going to have to teach me. I tried to learn but the ladies at the needlepoint store would not let me start with a belt. I think I could have handled it. The belt is just gorgeous!

  3. I LOVE needlepoint! It's a great way to pass the time in front of the TV! Be sure to post pictures of your finished belt!

These cuff bracelets are fun little projects. I've done quite a few, and I get lots of compliments on them.

  5. Yes, I labeled it cross stitch too! My greatest best friend forever, Carolyn, taught me how....many many many years ago! I have tried to teach my daughter, but she's not quite there...YET!!! What a beautiful belt it will be! Keychains....awesome idea!!!

PS I tear up when I read your posts about b ball...my 2nd and 3rd were TOTAL players and I really truly miss those days!
Please don't laugh or judge, but I used to pick up a ROASTED Whole chicken from the Farmers Market [or grocery store} with some corn on the cob and salads and we would "PICNIC" at their games since it was impossible to have REAL dinner!

  6. I love needlepoint belts! I don't know if you saw the post I did a while back where I showed the belt I made my husband in college. http://www.weaselsjourney.com/2009/09/preppie-day.html My son wears it sometimes now. I don't think it fits Robert anymore, even though he's not in the least bit heavy. If I ever finish my stocking (which I've been neglecting), I should make him another one. I love the steeplechase design you chose.

  7. OH MY GOODNESS!!! Bevy that is just wonderful. I am so impressed and know your husband will love sporting it around town. Everyone will want one when they see his! :)

Hope the baseball season ends the way you want it too and the boys are having fun! Thinking of you...

  9. I love this belt and the idea! I also love to needlepoint although I prefer the basket weave background than the pattern. Weird, huh? I have finished needlepoints that I never had made in to anything because I didn't need another pillow. I might need to switch to belts and keychains!

  10. I stitched one for my college boyfriend, too! It does become addictive, doesn't it? Maybe I should make one for hubby. I'm with you on the kids' sports. I got to the point that I was hoping for rain-outs of the soccer games. It just gets to be too much at times. Ready for a more relaxing summer.

  11. We call it "cross stitchin'" here in Louisiana and it's been a while since I've done it. I think the belt idea is so neat!

  13. Don't forget watchbands! And then, when we really have time on our hands (who knows when that will be), we can do dining room chair seats!

  16. I cross-stiched so much about twenty years ago. My most fav piece is of the clubhouse at the Augusta National--hangs proudly in husband's Romper Room. I don't think I would have the patience to sit still long enough to do it now though:) Love the pattern, it's adorable and sooooo preppy!

  17. Thanks for joining in on the Fab Nest Friday darling -- funny enough I spent hours in Liberty today looking for the 'right' pattern for a new project...way too many to choose from and I walked away empty handed only because the one I decided on was out of stock. Looking forward to seeing your finished product. Have a great weekend!

  18. Did you get the belt while you were it Pawleys?
The reason I ask it that a few weeks ago the Needlepoint shop had this wonderful instructor come from Dallas and we sat in the shop and needlepointed all day. I have never learned so much. I am just starting back and I am so glad I did. I am sure it will be hard to make it with a young family but check out her schedules as you will just love, love it!
