I Declare War!

A few weeks ago I posted about the barrage of thunder storms in our area.  Well, they are back.  "Summer storms" are the more romantic name we southerners give them, but they really are more of a hassle.  They come at a moments notice with torrential rain and lightning that would scare Ben Franklin back to his French mistresses in an heartbeat.  And then an hour later, they are are gone with a blue sky filled with big, puffy white clouds.

We have had said storms every day this week - the first week of school to boot!  The boys and I have come home exhausted, done the small amount of homework given this week, and eaten a light snack.  Then, I have let them have a little down time to watch thirty minutes or so of television.  (I know I am a terrible mom.)  But today, the satellite went out and the storm was ablowing.  So what did my guys do:  Whine?  Sulk?  Grab the IPod Touch?  Play with the DS?  No... They grabbed a pack of cards and had to longest game of War I've seen in a long time.  And had a ball!

Don't you love seeing your children unplugged and playing nicely together?  Love. it!!!

  1. We need some of your rain ~ it's getting really dry here.

Love it! A great way to unwind and get a giggle or two in before supper is ready.

Thought of you yesterday when I went into school. I'm starting to get excited.

  3. That is so great! I love it when kids' imaginations get going. And, you are not a bad mom for letting your kids watch 30 minutes of television! We all have to do what it takes to get other tasks completed and give the kids a little "down" time.

  4. You are a great mom! I know what you mean about the storms--everything including the kids needs to be unplugged! I was so happy when mine wanted to go to the library this afternoon after school--for books to read for fun!

  5. Learned quickly about the southern storms. Dropped B at Clemson on Saturday/Sunday. On Monday he is calling for $ already since he N.E.E.D.S. a raincoat NOW! He purchased one and got a lot of use out of it already.

We are card players too, but you're right it's hard to UNPLUG unless you are forced!

Can't believe you have a week of school finished. J doesn't start until the 8th!

  8. with all the unbelievable temperatures, my testosterone posse has been terribly plugged in over the past few weeks. but over the last few days (since school started) we have "unplugged" quite a bit. they have been truly creative and have enjoyed their afternoons together so much more. and i sit back and enjoy it watching. ;-)
