Today's Misérables Experience

Don't you hate when you are sitting at a stoplight and someone pulls up next to you with their car practically pulsating?  As if I (and the rest of the world) really want to hear the "music" (and I use that that term very lightly) blaring from their speakers.   Rude!  Well today was payback time for Bevy.

After admitting to myself that I've still had a few Christmas CDs in the CD changer, I decided that perhaps I was dragging the season out a bit too long.  So today I looked in the CD organizer I keep under my seat to find some more suitable music.  And there it was.  I hadn't listened to it in forever:  Les Misérables.
I love, love, love Les Misérables.  The passion and emotion just get me.  I've seen it twice, never on Broadway, but both national traveling productions.  Have you?  The construction of the barricade?  The drowning of Javert?  The waltz of the Thenardiers?  The love song between Marius and Cosette outside her home?

"Do You Hear the People Sing" and "One Day More" were cranked up - AND LOUD.  Yes, it was this 40-year-old pearl-wearing mother of two's turn.  This time the Odyssey was pulsating.

  2. Too funny! I have never seen the production of Les Mis, but I did see the movie with Liam Neison and Claire Danes. That was the movie that made me a Claire Danes fan! LOVED IT!!

  3. I love Les Mis. But more often than not, my car is has a hearty dose of 80s Duran Duran Hungry Like the Wolf or Human League Don' You Want Me going. . . with me singing in the car, of course! xoxo

  5. Completely classic. Bravo to you. Let the rest of the world hear what "real" music is. Thank you for doing that. I would have done exactly the same. Mine would have been Phantom of the Opera. I've only seen the film version of Les Mis...you know the one with Liam Nesson, Claire Danes and Jeffrey Rush....probably not as good as the stage version, but still good.

  6. LOVE LOVE LOVE les mis! I did see it on Broadway - long ago. So sad to have seen it leave. My sons high school put it on 3 years ago and they did an AMAZING job with the set and TALENT! My favorite is BRING HIM HOME...I have it downloaded on itunes and every so often BLAST it on the computer....my kids have learned to deal with it. Good for you "culturing" society!

  7. I think I am the only person in the English speaking world who doesn't care for Les Mis. I love live theatre and I did have the privilege of seeing Les Mis on Broadway. I have since come to the conclusion that I am a very shallow person and prefer my entertainment to have snappy tunes and tap shoes.

  9. I LOVE Le Miz-I saw it in London, and several times when it has come to town-LOVE it!!!
I would listen to it loud in my car, too-and anything else-I am embarrassed to say, that might be me blasting the thumping music when I am alone in the car! (Sorry!)

  12. I agree- Les Mis is wonderful! Okay, so I need your help- I begin my second semester of student teaching this Monday and the first thing I am doing independently is choosing and reading the read-aloud book. Do you have any fun chapter books that would be good read-alouds?? I have a few ideas, but I didn't know if you had any favorite ones to read out loud?
