We are bracing for snow, sleet and ice down south. Operative words being sleet and ice. I've been to the grocery store and bought the requisite extra batteries, milk and bread. (Of course, I bought other goodies to ease the potential discomfort of being stuck in the house with no power.)
I understand the batteries: flashlights, weather radios, etc. But what is with it with milk and bread? I'll be honest, we just needed the milk. We were getting low. But every time there is the slightest mention of inclement weather, our town goes nuts and clears the shelves. One might think it was a shoe sale at Nordstroms! I can tell you it isn't pretty...
My friend Corey is from Iowa and gets the giggles every time. She ponders what we all do with that abundance of milk and bread. Her epiphany?
Why "milk sandwiches" of course! Yum...
I just wrote my blog entry about our impending winter storm. I'm also puzzled by the need to purchase milk. We got milk yesterday too, but only because we were out. I did pick up two 2-liter sodas, some crackers, pop tarts, fruit, cereal, bread, PB,jelly and canned soup. We could use a Coleman stove to heat up soup if needed. The bread could be used for PBNJ sandwiches, but milk??? I'm cooking chili for supper and hopefully the leftovers will serve us at lunch tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYes, we are prepared here. We had milk, but I did purchase chocolate milk. Honestly, that is more for me. :). Hubby did check the propane for our grill. We are "those" people who enjoy a good steak when there isn't any power. Hope you enjoy every minute of the snow! I can't wait for it to start!
ReplyDeleteI would love a winter storm here in WI (only if I get a day off school). I just want snow though, no ice. Of course this would hopefully happen after my detox as it would stink to be home all day and be able to eat nothing but fruits and veggies!
ReplyDeletePlease. no. ice. That is my prayer.
ReplyDeleteHaHa...my husband jokes that he didn't know so many people love BREAD PUDDING! Same thing happens here in the North too! Crazy!
ReplyDeleteMy only worry now is getting B back to Clemson on TUES. for classes on WEDS.....pray no problems!
You just know it would be a travesty to be without milk! ;)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm...don't know about milk sandwiches. We've been getting sleet and a little snow here in Louisiana. No word yet on whether we will get a Snow Day tomorrow. Stay warm!!
ReplyDeleteI hope y'all are safe and cozy. WE have only ever had one ice storm here in TX and it was more than 15 years ago. It was beautiful but I can see how they can be really scary too. Hope y'all are all stocked up.
ReplyDeleteHaven forbid people don't eat milk and bread for a few days, lol! We are about to get some snow tonight too! (fingers crossed we gave a snow day!)
ReplyDeleteI think we are too cold for ice storms here...13*! Good Luck!!
ReplyDeleteAt our house we go through a gallon of milk a day, so we always need milk! I definitely would be stocking up if I were with you! I hope you do not lose power. That is never fun!
ReplyDeleteIt cracks me up that people clear the shelves of bread and mile, like they aren't going to get out for days and days! I hope you get snow instead of ice. I really don't mind driving in the snow, it's just the ice that scares me.
ReplyDeleteBe safe.
Yes, snow here, & bread&milk outages @ the stores here, as well. I assume maybe the milk arises from a need for families with babies&toddlers to be sure they have enough of a milk supply. Bread maybe because it's just the requisite staple food item to have on hand..."our daily bread?" Idk. We have two different kinds of bagels, too. =) Hope you are staying warm & avoiding any major issues in the storm! Pretty Little Bare Feet won't let us keep the channel on anything news- or snow-related long enough for us to hear anything. =) She's so excited!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the milk & bread thing cracks me up, but it's so true here. And, long lines at the gas station. I was watching the Weather Channel this morning and the youngt woman giving a report from Atlanta actually told viewers what sleet sounds like. I guess for thsoe of us in the upper South, we're more than acquainted with that sound. Hope you have a snow day (that is, if you want one!).
ReplyDeleteNasty weather here today too. Lights even went out for a bit when icy limbs broke. I'm ready for it to be over. Lots of milk here too...and eggs...no bread...LOL
ReplyDeletehope you all survived your storm!! snow came for us today. ALL. DAY. we got about 5-6 inches but school wasn't canceled. since I can't drive in it, we walked. a sight to behold, snow thrashing our faces, a 2 year old in the stroller, me and my very out of shape self manuvering said stroller over un-shoveled sidewalks. our typical 10 minute walk took about 30 and then I turned around and walked back. it was pretty though!
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing!

I always get a giggle when they buy chicken. Really? What does one do with the chicken if you lose power?
ReplyDeleteWe just got another 18 inches on top of the 9 we already had. Snow day to day and they've already called a delay for tomorrow.
